For those of you with poor reading comprehension I'm not stating the title as a fact I'm stating it as the logical conclusion of the evidence everyone has. ICANN blatantly ignored the recommendations of their GAC and the world community as a whole, overturned their own previous rulings and then allowed a very controversial domain extension. The palms of the council were clearly greased with large amounts of money, hookers, cars, and who knows what else. Why would you pass this for the 200k you receive for a new TLD plus a few pennies for each registration? ICANN will not make a significant amount of money on .xxx relative to the rest of its business. The president of ICANN already makes about 1 million per year. Why do you risk increased government oversight, scrutiny from the EU, and just generally bad press? The only reason you would do this is if council members are receiving significant bribes. If I was ICANN I wouldn't pass .xxx. Why rock the boat when you are making huge money already and basically control the internet? Why risk the UN taking over?
