the Champions League was only introduced in 1992 .. before that it was just the "European Cup" wich Real Madrid indeed won several times .. but most football historians will tell you that is not really relevant as back then there were not really that many teams competing ..

Madrid has won 3 "real" Champions League cups all the rest was just sillyness .. just look at the teams they had to beat to get to the final in all those European Cup wins in the 50's - 60's
