It seems like you say you dont want the psd to move out of the main window, but the next sentence states you used to be able to and thats what you want to do.
If you haven't figured out a way to get what you want, and can clarify just a little bit more, I will try to find an answer for ya =D.

my mistake - in older versions of PS your documents could NOT move outside the boundaries of the PS window, you would take a document/window and push it against the border of Photoshop and it would hide part of the document window as far as you pushed it - the same way as when you have browser windows open on your desktop.
