The movie probably relied heavily on Freudian constructs because Freudian theories are ENTERTAINING--hence V_Rocks reference above to one of Freud's most notable/controversial/laughable theories: The Oedipus Complex -- men want to fuck their moms and kill their dads. Makes for great (but incorrect) art criticism and literary criticism but makes for lousy science. Freud didn't know that his own cultural bias seeped into this work and that he based his theory on a very small, unrepresentative sample nor did he control for other variables/causes.
