I don't know for sure but based on what's said at

) for other news sources and if they place you enough times, you're in their news database. I'm assuming this is more of a marathon than a sprint unless you're already a well known regional offline brand that got on the web fairly recently.
There's a reason why I get news rewrite jobs. I suppose one key factor for the process above is you have to be consistent regarding news rewrites for your site and do it for a few quarters until you get picked up, if ever. Most clients who order rewrites have a focused niche audience and aren't really shooting for G syndication.
