You can't be tried for commiting the same crime twice. If I robbed a bank on 5/28/03 and was aquitted, I can't be tried for the same crime again. However if I rob another bank on 6/28/03, I can be charged and convicted for that.
Its not that you can't be tried twice for the same crime, its that you can't be tried twice for the same instance of the same crime.
Double jeapordy doesn't apply to civil & criminal courts either.. ala the OJ case. You can be aquitted of something in criminal court, then tried again in civil court (where the standard of evidence is much lower) for violating the civil rights of the victim during the crime you were aquitted of in criminal court.
