I have my doubts that the new plan will ever go into effect, but I'm glad the Dems took the bold move of tackling one of the third rails of politics.
A major obstacle to any change in the system is the rural Republican voter base. Their medical care isn't exactly cutting edge, so it doesn't cost a fortune. Low populations keep demand down too. These variables result in an accessible system for them. Under a new system their quality of care is unlikely to improve, so I don't see them supporting anything regardless of what the proposal is.
And of course since the Republican party is almost completely reliant on rural citizens as their voter base, I don't think we will ever see healthcare reform.
