Don't believe all you hear - this is very much a Sarko-driven incentive to win back the Arab World after France's fuckup in Tunisia, from day one.
I'm in quite a unique position from most here in that I'm listening to the French media and the UK media and well, there are very different messages:
The French media is reporting nothiing on bombing tanks yet saying it took out command and control centres in its sortées that would be used for Libyan air strikes if left in place. The UK media is actively reporting tanks being blown up (wtf has that to do with a no FLY zone) and pro-Gaddafi supporter casualties.
I wouldn't trust a single word spoken in the French media as even the independents are under a tight leash... NOTHING and I mean nothing was even uttered about Gaddafi's claim that he supported Sarkosi's election campaign. If the French media was independent they would have at least reported that massive claim, but then blasted the possible impossibility of it.
A no fly zone enforcement - 100%. Aiding the resistance more than that, I'm open for debate. Flat out wiping out the power in place, no way.
---edit -
part of Gaddafi's complex destroyed in recent sortés - wtf is this? OK, sure he can control things from this place, but how can this be justified under a "No-fly zone enforced coalition"?
