The English in this thread is going downhill fast. For the record:
When a person tries to make an assertion about something without saying it outright they imply. A person listening to another speak or reading their words who draws a conclusion not actually stated in the text infers.
When one asks to use an item that another person owns, the word we use in both American and British English is borrow. When one gives out an item to a friend or acquaintance with the expectation of getting it back it's called a loan.
