I figure im going to need a software package that will convert the whole movie to mpeg for me (mpeg1 i assume??), which i can then take and cut into clips to be uploaded for our members (that part i can handle.) does anyone have any suggestions for good software to do this? or am i totally going about it the wrong way. any help will be appreciated.

peace.
Probably the best package to use for a newbie is SmartRipper.
Now..just a couple of basic tips:
1)Make sure you have PLENTY of hard disk room. You're going to be extracting some BIG ASS files!
2)You will FIRST get the files..and they will be .vob files.
3)Then you need to decide what program you want to use to convert vob to mpeg. Tmpg is good (though somewhat slow), and free. IF you have the money (or connections ala Kazaa), I would recommend using Vegas Video to convert to mpeg.
4)Allocate a LOT of time for this whole proceedure. Because it's going to be time consumming extracting the vob files and then converting them to mpegs.

OR send them to someboyd to encode for you if you don't want to hassle with it. Hope this helps some.
