My thoughts exactly. $1000 - $1500 should get you a small gas splitter. My parents burn wood for heat and are constantly working on wood.. acquiring, splitting, stacking and hauling it inside when needed. Seems like more of a hassle than what it's worth.

I have a wood stove with a glass window, its absolutely wonderful on a snowy winter night. When the fire dies in the middle of the night the furnace kicks in.
