FHGs and TGP/MGP galleries in general convert the best when they are as simple as possible with a site logo/header, 12-15 thumbs in 3-4 rows and big bold text link to a paysite tour in the middle of those rows and bellow them + a little text to go with the gallery.
Many surfers use various ad blockers and using any standard size banner is pointless since they won't see it (that's a general rule which works all around, not only for galleries).
