I've been prospecting for around 8 years now. I have a half-mile of creek front on my diggins and 40 acres of benches. While the state outlawed my dredge two years ago, I still use electronic means (I'm high-tech), sluicing and good ol' fashioned panning, to recover gold there, in an area where tens of millions of dollars worth has been found.
Following the upcoming XBIZ LA event, I'll be out there most weekends, if anyone is in Norcal and isn't afraid of hard work...
