What is the time frame after which a host could get involved?

If you DMCA the site owner, and he complies within a reasonable time (7 days?) then the host has nothing to do with it, doesn't it? How long do you have to wait after DMCA'ing the site owner for him to not remove things before a host should even do anything about the dmca?
