That's not a templar cross in his avatar. First, it's not a cross at all or an x or + sign of any type. The ends to not flare out half the mid points (mans growth), it's not on white (purity) and it's not red. At that, it's round, a shield - more in line with Celtic symbols used 1000's of years before any religion was around.
