youtube is good at pulling videos if they get a copyright complaint, if you own the rights to a good viral video, then it is smart to protect it, but the problem as you describe it that the links and blog posts still will get traffic from surfers trying to find the video
it is bad though when people re-rip videos, the quality suffers, but there is such a clutter of copied videos that you can't even find the original and you are never sure which one is the original viral video
