Girls like someone a bit dangerous and unpredictable over someone safe and normal.
If you doubt that, ask yourself this... How many genuinely nice guys cant find a girlfriend? LOADS...
How many six foot skinheads with nazi tattoos and big boots do you see WITHOUT girlfriends? NONE lol
