Holiday Gift Giving Advice

I thought I would share my as every year I go though the same BS with family and friends.

I swear these are not from some website, I was just having this convo today with someone on the phone today and thought I would share...

1) Dont give cash to friends - it makes you look tacky. Take 8 seconds out of your life and think about their favorite stores to shop and buy them a gift card.

2) Younger siblings, cousins, etc., LOVE cash. A gift card to a 8 year old is just as good as a dictionary to a monkey. Let them hold the cash and help them learn the process of buying items at the store with cash.

3) Buy some extra gift cards to generic places like Best Buy, Target, etc. Why? Because you never know who may drop off a gift to you that you weren't expecting and have to say "sorry I didn't get you anything." Worst case you can use them yourself to buy tampons or a new xbox game

4) "Gift on to others as you would want to be gifted." If you live in an apartment with no grass and no deck/patio, would you buy yourself a gardening kit? No! Then don't buy one for someone else.

Every year me or someone I know gets someone that buys them something like this.

5) If your giving cash, ROUND UP to nearest bill. Dont give someone $38 or $45, give them $40 or a $50. Not only do you look stupid but you also look cheap.

6) If your going to give a gag present, make the real present be 2x better than what you would normally get them. Don't get someone a Jack-In-The-Box and a $10 itunes gift card, they will hate you.

7) Believe it or not, I've had this happen.. do NOT re-gift items to someone unless they are no way related or will ever see the person that gave it to you.

We all get shit we dont want and plan to move it along to someone else, but make sure when you do, your not giving the "Bachelors Bar Tending Kit" you got from your friend Kevin last year to your friend Mike who both hang out... its pretty embarrassing to hear "didn't I buy that for you last year?"

8) Finally, put some fucking thought into your gifts. Material possessions are great and so is cash, but when you give something from the heart, it means 100x more.

Feel free to add and we can bump again next year. Merry Christmas
