once this one is in place, it will be very easy to censor everything else they choose.

to me, that is the bigger issue with this. Not the loss of a few sales.
Thus an industry cycle of retards continues. Any other industry would roll with the government. Alcohol, tobacco, firearms. They loby the fuck out of the government, back the right causes, and play the system. Not porn though, the porn industry is too busy chasing eachother tails trying to poke their little pink tips in one anothers assholes. Where is the porn lobby? They should be flying the "protect the children flag" louder and harder than ayoe else. Press the government to enact laws that are in their favor, all under the guise of child protection. Close up the open distribution of adult content. Put it under lock and key so to speak.

Had the industry done something prior to regulate the flow of content online, we wouldn't be faced with this situation where the ball is in the government's court. The warnings were there, still nobody can seem to see more than 6 months ahead in this game. Nont only did the idustry not take any initiative, it largely moved in the opposite direction making porn more freely open and easily accessible. This industry dug it's own hole so to speak. If you'd like to look at this as a sign of doom, you can blame the very industry you work in and yourself for bringing us to this point. For it will be the gateway which opens pandora's box, and we're all a little bit responsible for taking part in it.

I for one don't see this particular initiative as it stands as a threat. It's simply the enforcement of existing law, because we as distributors couldn't manage to keep up on our end of the bargain. The industry should back this and ensure that is in what it is promised, and it will be best for everyone. It's not too late, but to continue fighting it is a sure way to open the gates to true outright censorship. In any other medium, you don't see open porn access like this for anyone of any age. Why should the internet be any different? You don't see free channels blasting porn at primetime on your local cable now do you? They aren't threatening to blacklist sites, only restrict the viewers by age to age appropriate pages. it actually makes perfect sense.

If you think you're doing some sort of good in fighting this, you're wrong. By fighting all online regulation, you only invite more censorship. The internet is not what it was yesterday, and it won't be what it is today by tomorrow. Reasonable legal concessions need to be made. This one is perfectly acceptable. They aren't telling you what you can and can't read or watch, they're telling 12 year olds they can't watch some chick get gangrailed in the ass. If you want to see some chick getting her ass hammered, it seems to me that you'd still be more than welcome to with no more restriction than a call to your service provider.

If the only reasonable argument you can come up with against this is "it threatens the free speech of the internet" it only shows how narrow your perception of the situation is. The fight against this type of reasonable agreement is more of a threat to the true free speech issues...

"You have to be 18 to view porn pages on the internet" is a long stretch from "we're blacklisting and banning whatever sites we find inappropriate", which is exactly what you'll get if some reasonable amends is not met for the restriction of adult content.
