I've never been a huge fan of Christmas. I left home at age 16 and never returned for Christmas. I ended up on the West Coast, and returning home for Christmas just wasn't an option when I was younger - I had to work multiple jobs to keep my head above water, couldn't afford to fly home, and surely couldn't afford the time off from work. So I never returned home.
My father died when I was a baby, and my mother and step-father divorced years ago. I haven't talked to my step father in ages, and my mother recently decided that she doesn't like my wife (because she doesn't have enough class?) and has no interest in being a part of my life (or her only granddaughter's life).
Thus, when I was younger Christmas was always spent at a girlfriend's parent's house, and once I got married it was always spent with the in-laws. In-laws and the extended family is awesome, but at the end of the day it's not my flesh and blood. Christmas these days is all about my ten year old daughter, and while that's great it's also a bit lacking for me.
