Many people do this and get some exposure, like Lil Wayne's A Milli for example, which was remix'd or freestyled over be probably hundreds of people.

And I totally agree about the T-Rain thing, T-Pain is pretty much a fucking joke and copying his stupid name is even worse and unoriginal.
I got a demo copy of FL Studio for free from my friend's kid. Took about 10 minutes to install and even though I don't have a fucking clue how to use it and it's more of a play around with when I have the time thing, if he's dead serious about it I will personally ship him a copy of it so he can create his own beats.

Case in point about the using other people's music thing and a quick story -

I was in a band in high school. My high school put on a "Coffee House" which was an organized "open mic night" put on by the choir program to raise money. it was super hard to get into so we auditioned four songs. Three were originals and the fourth was wonderwall by oasis.

All three of our originals were chosen to be performed by us for the show, the cover was denied ... for being a cover. They enjoyed our original music WAY more than stuff we took from someone else (who at the time and even now Oasis was a huge band and nobody had heard of us lol) and made our own, much as MindWaste is doing.
