While anxious does have an alternate definition meaning worried, anxious and eager ARE synonyms. Both can be used to signify desire.
anxious, 1. fearful off what may happen 2. desiring earnestly
eager, marked by keen, enthusiastic, or sharply expectant desire or interest
(obviously, I have someone who bugs me about my use of the word "anxious" and I've previously taken the time to refute their allegations that I have used the word inappropriately)
