I moved from Vancouver, Canada to Serbia.
In Vancouver I had a 1050 square foot apartment (25 year old), in Serbia I have a 1000 square foot one (brand new, 1 years old now). So pretty much the same:
Costs in Canada (During WINTER - heating season = more power usage, etc)
Rent: $1100 USD
Power: $50 USD
25mbit Internet: $50 USD
Landline: $30 USD
Cell Phone $40 USD
Misc Utils: $40 USD
Total: $1310 USD / month

Rent/Mortgage: $325 USD / month *I bought a place here, but its the same as rent
Power: $100 USD / month
8mbit Internet: $100 USD / month
Misc Utils: $200 USD / month
Mobile bill: $80 USD / month
Land Line: $30 USD / month
Total: $810 USD / month
In Conclusion, moving here is cheaper if we look at the cost of dwelling ONLY. The utilities are insanely expensive, wayy more than in Vancouver, Canada. In fact electricity will go up by 60% in 3 years so it will be even more expensive.
Food costs the same as in Canada, Electronics cost way more, Computers are about the same price.
