I'm actually going to have to side with Stocktrader's argument on this one. It's actually a topic I was discussing with another member not long ago. Closing FA&PD to the general public has lost GFY a lot of search traffic, and made it that much harder for someone to get interested in signing up. New sign-ups are low, not because of people's lack of interest in being the next internet porn millionaire, but because they simply aren't finding GFY or can't be hassled to signup.
Agent raises a good point in saying that the industry is basically dead. It is. Long term members are dropping, and new members aren't joining (for the reasons Stocktrader has mentioned). It's sort of like a country having a negative birthrate. So long as the death rate is higher than the birth rate, population decreases. Deaths are bound to happen, so you need to keep the new blood coming. GFY pretty much put a stop order on new births when they closed the board...
