Yup. Whoever got in after Bush was screwed.
- 2 expensive wars
- numerous deregulated industries just waiting for some clusterfuck accident (like an oil rig fucking up or banks collapsing after dodgy deals). Bush took hundreds of regulations off of his buddies favorite industries
- Massive unemployment
- Bush whacked on 7 trillion+ debt (most republicans still won't accept that, they live in fairy land)
When you come in to power with the country nearly destroyed, it's easy for the republicans to paint their massive list of fuck ups as the problem of the new guy.
Also Obama shouldn't have done health care. Not because it wasn't a good idea to catch up to every other civilised country in the world, but because it made people think he was doing that INSTEAD of fixing the economy.
The US is so divided politically that people shut their ears to rationalism which is a big problem, because while fuck ups like the tea baggers spout shit, the corporations and vested interests are taking the country to the cleaners. The love affair of the US government with corporations is still going strong, while many Americans have seen their jobs with corporate America get shipped overseas and the corporation pays 7% tax.
