In spite of me working in adult, I got custody of my children. I fought without letting up, and I spent everything cent I ever made - which was a fuck of a lot of money. I am broke now, and will be for a long time. But I'm doing ok, and my kids will do be doing a lot better when they graduate from college.
That was my job as a father - to insure my children have a better life than me - no matter what the cost. It all depends on how hard you are willing to fight.
If you are a "Parent In Adult", there's a good chance you're eventually gonna have a fight on your hands.
