explain this to me...I know it's very popular to say "we want a smaller government" but what do you mean by that?
Should they get rid of all of their office staff, fire a bunch of cops, school teachers and DMV workers? That would be a smaller government and even more people now unemployed.
Our DMV is already talking about unpaid furlough days for DMV employees. My fiance's mother, who works for the school district is having to take one extra unpaid day off per month and 7 people in her office of 12 are getting laid off in November, just before the holidays....well, there's smaller government...
Do want government out of your life? How much so? Should they stop funding new roads, hiring new cops and firefighters? Stop building schools? Get rid of the FDA (ok, admittedly this organization is pretty much useless anyways)? Where do you start and how far do you go? Also keep in the mind the people factor...you tell a government office they need to cut their budget...guess what gets cut first? It's not the salary of the head of that office...they will cut out staff...leading to more people unemployed...
Maybe we should cut military spending...bring some soldiers home and face a job market that is already scary and now will be worse. God forbid they need medical attention from a VA hospital...my ex-father-in-law saw how bad that was and that was before all of the talks of budget cuts.
Btw, Vendzilla, this isn't an attack on you, rather, everyone who talks about smaller government and don't really specify which part of the government they want made smaller...
