They are trying to diagnose some gastro problems my 15 year old son has been having. He has acid reflux that is in the very early stages of eroding part of his lower esophagus. He has an esophagial hernia and 2 small ulcers. A recent endoscopy (camera down the throat) resulted with some biopsy results that shows some inflamed cells in his small intestine.

Doc called up here about a week ago wanting to schedule testing to see if he may have Crohn's disease (I don't think so) or some form of IBD.

First I explain to my son that he needs some bloodwork done. No big deal. Then I explain that he needs a GI series where he swallows some barium and they track it through his system. A bit hesitant but okay...

Then I tell him about the colonoscopy. Drink some clean out stuff the night before. 2 enemas the morning of... then they zonk him out for about 20 minutes and when he wakes up it's over.

His eye's get wide.. and he screams "Hell No! I'm not gay and they aren't gonna stick nothing up there. It's a one way road!"

No way no how this kid is gonna get anywhere near a hospital go get one done, let alone drink the stuff the night before or do 2 enemas.

Luckily the doc also recommended in the meantime that he eat a completely gluten free diet (no wheat based products, etc). He's been a week now with virtually no pain in his stomach. Hopefully the bulk of the problem has been an intolerance to gluten. He's still having the other two tests done. I'm just hoping the doc doesn't try to force the issue of the colonoscopy. I'll never get the kid in the car with me again.
