Also, local community standards was a far big worry too back than it is now - many producers incorporated a plot in to reduce the risk of their work being labeled as obscene.

As with now, many people back then wanted more explicit porn, but it simply was not widely available until the VCR and adult rentals came into being in the 1980s.

Then the internet took it even further with much explicit content being distributed devoid of any plot whatsoever.
