I beleive the government should enforce individual rights, and as far as law enforcement goes, anything that someone else does that violates anothers rights is what should be considered illegal and enforced. (What you do in the privacy of your own home does not concern me, get high if you want, just dont go out for a joyride after)
I also think that most things people consider the governments job could be run better by private individuals and business.

I think that the government is of, by and for the people. It should be a cowardly slave to the will of the people. It should protect and help them. It should do everything in it's power, the power granted to them by the people, to make sure they are safe and secure in good times and in bad.
Some of the things that I think the government should be doing but are not due to special interests are;
Protect the individual liberties and freedoms of American citizens without intentionally and for no good reason inducing paralyzing fear in the masses to make money
They should regulate those business sectors that have a real impact on the economy, the environment or the well being and health of the population.
They should protect American jobs and help to raise the standard of living in the US while avoiding isolationism.
They should make a good education a right of it's citizens if they meet certain minimum criteria
The should make health care available for all citizens
(a healthy, financially secure, well educated individual of voting age
scares the fuck out of career politicians).
They should make a Constitutional Amendment that overturns the view that a corporation has the same rights when it comes to campaign financing as an individual has
They should respect an individuals privacy.
But above all else, the one thing that I can write that trumps anything else I could possibly say:
The government needs to work together in a respectful way to come to compromises that will work for the benefit of the American people both rich and poor alike.
The American people by and large of all classes have become some of the most ignorant humans on the face of the planet. We pick sides and fight like hell and most times it is actually against our own best interest just so we can have had the fight and hopefully been on the winning side.
The ONLY side any of us should be on is the side of 98% of the people who live here. That is not going to happen; people pick things that are important to them, identify the party that 'feels their pain' and roots for them in all things that they do.
Blind
Stupid
Uninformed Loyalty that will cost them dearly in the long run. But the great thing about us Americans is we won't be able to see it. Nope, we
WON...and that's all that matters
