Photography in Japanese porn is much more valued in Japan, softcore nude and non-nude hardcover books called 'gravure' are huge there. They have their own style, the backgrounds are all white or light pastel colors, looks great with the pale complexions of the models. Clothing is very non-porn-ish, girls wear trendy Japanese fashions and really nice lingerie/underwear. It's not glamour, it's more towards fashion and artistic nude in style.

And supposedly the entire Japanese porn industry is controlled by the Yakuza. The models are recruited in public in Tokyo's most trendy fashion district, Shibuya, by agencies/scouts. They are also paid extremely well, contract stars for the top JAV studios make much more than a VIVID Girl does.
