I grew up in a very small town in the 1980s. We all knew each other; All of the cops were the parents of kids I went to school with. I remember one time I was arrested. Seems I rented some VHS tapes and failed to return them. (Keep in mind this was long before debit cards, so they had no way to collect on them so the video store owner filed a complaint.) So the cops saw in me in town and arrested me, handcuffs and all. Being as this was the biggest crime in town in months, they made a big deal about it, two cop cars, sirens blaring, all the way to my house. As a fifteen year old kid I was scared shitless - police cars, sirens, me being turned over to my parents in handcuffs.... Looking back at it clearly it was all scare tatics. And it worked.

This is what's wrong with society these days. Thirty years ago when I was a teen it was an official act, cops scaring the crap out of kids. Do the same today and it's subject to an internal review. Any time a fifteen year old boy has sex with a fourteen year old girl the boy has broken the law; The girl is under the age of consent. The cop was doing this kid a favor by trying to scare him instead of filing a complaint.
