because those 'small countries' are all grouped in the same region and can cause one fuck of a mess so far as the delivery of natural gas, oil, etc etc.
And to say you 'beat' Iraq in three weeks is nothing short of laughable. You walked away after 7 years and left a mess. A beating requires fighting to end.
