Sure, I would take something.
But to make that analogy, you are assuming the products walmart was giving away for free were all stolen. You are also comparing tangible goods with digital goods, big difference between those two.
If a store decides to give away products for free, which they often do with "get two for the price of one" promos, it's their problem. You're not breaking the law if you take a free product home. However, you are breaking the law if you illegally download copyrighted material.
