Pretty true. I had a day job years back in which I managed a couple employees. One "employee from hell", who despite having an absolute ton of issues with everyone managed to stick around for about a year and a half, got moved to my team. She was an older Hispanic woman, so triple zinger...potential for being seen as ageist, racist, sexist especially with me being a young white male despite having gotten to my position there based entirely on MERIT). And in true employee from hell fashion, she was vocal about using the fact that she was an old Hispanic woman to start shit if she was ever canned.
Long story short, I had to be extra meticulous in documenting her long list of mistakes, incidents, and shortcomings, and finally a situation occurred where she handled a call so poorly that the person called the company back, asked for the woman's manager (me) and was CRYING on the phone. We were just a middleman company in the mortgage process and this was a borrower...in many mortgages we were not in direct contact with the borrower AT ALL and for sure our contact with the borrower is never meant to be anything but an FYI to the borrower. So after 6 fucking months of dealing with that bitch (one of the few people I've ever gotten to know that I could truly call a bitch), we finally had more than enough ammunition to fire her without recourse. And in response to that she physically threatened our VP and yelled and whatnot, then tried to just sit back down and act as if nothing had happened and ultimately had to be escorted out...next would have been call to the police.
So yea, if you're a minority and don't think you get equal or even more than equal treatment when it comes to being FIRED, then you are 100% wrong. Yes I'm in California which is an employee protection haven, but still...if I were the employee from hell, I wouldn't have lasted a month there, being a young white male n' all.
Reminds me of the movie The Animal (spoiler ahead, not that anyone gives a shit). At the end of it, it's found out that the "manbeast" that was killing a lot of animals in the area turned out to be Rob Schneider's woman love interest, and a mob of white people were about to capture/kill her when the black friend of her/Rob Schneider takes the rap for it, saying he was the manbeast. The mob people start to be like "well I guess we can let you off for it" and starts to disperse (as part of a running gag of reverse racism with that black character who is always pissed off about it) and Norm McDonald as the most vocal member of the mob then says the classic line "I don't want to be part of a mob to kill a black dude".
