[Labret]...my brother intends to start on his PHD in January. He will complete his masters in December. He works full time at a college and is sick of taking classes but said what the hell he has come this far so may as well as go all the way and of course a PHD means more money. His thesis will not be about porn though.

Going that far was only a distant dream to me really. They just dont hand them out and I have heard nothing but horror stories concerning thesis defense. What? You want me to slave away on a topic for several years, and then at the end hand it over to people that are gonna take my lifes work and shit all over it and try to rip it apart?
And I know how well I handle criticism.
I think its easy once you learn to play the game. Once you have the general requirements knocked out in any particular school, me in Letters and Science for example, all you have to do from that point on to get more paper is just finish the core for that particular subject you are aiming for. Since I am anthro and soc already, it will only take me another year to get another bachelors in history and a 4th one in criminal justice. All my archaeology courses carry over to history and all my soc and cultural antro carry over to cj, so all I need is about 15 to 25 upper division credit hours in each. Weeee, its almost like cheating its so easy.
Once you get the first two, the rest are almost freebies. Cept for phds, Im actually quite scared to attempt it.
