known about this car for a long time, working for a dealer. it's defininitely a nice car for a ford, but it's disappointing that ford has to make a $100k+ car just to compete with the $36k vette on performance.
every one of their attempts in the last few decades to beat out the camaros and vettes have been miserable failures. even the cobras, the new special-edition mach 1, and even most of the svt stuff has been a dud. disappointing.
really, comparing product to product, gm has ford out-classed in every model, with no exception. on every base you can find a better package, more performance, and more durability. often even more options. only recently has ford even really become competitve with things like the gt40, the new rebuilt expedition, and the mellenia S special edition. the new 6 seems to be a pretty nice car, but they hit the lot just after i left, so i haven't driven one. the protege is a fairly zippy car with the stick, and the mazdaspeed protege is a contender. if you can find one. the escape/tribute is the fastest small SUV i've driven. probably has just as much power as the explorer (i can't remember).
in the end, they're slowly starting to compete, but it's going to take a while. look at the tbird. brought back a classic, and again, priced it to be too expensive for anyone to want to buy. end production. oh well. fuck fords.
oh, i will give them props for the power 3rd seat and heated and AIR CONDITIONED front seat in the new expedition. not sure why they made air conditioned seats, but it's a cool gadget.
