Updraft was a nice solution because it did a daily backup of the DB, the content and the theme files and put a zip on the server and emailed me, but it just stopped working. I even deactivated, deleted and reinstalled it and it just doesn't work.

Yes, it's only the db. I always make sure I have files synchronized, and nothing goes up without going through here first, so what's on the server, is also in the studio. Re-upping everything sucks of course, but it's foolproof. Plus without backing up everything every time (server side) and only backing the db, I can set it for every hour, (like I have already) and then if anything goes wrong, the most I lose is an hour's worth of data from the db... but no file loss.
