I use compete.com to gauge traffic volume. For our sites, I can generally multiply whatever compete reports by 3.5 to get the *real* numbers. They have 2 sites that compete reports over 20K uniques per month, so 45K x 3.5 = 157K uniques per month. Granted, I don't know how much of that consists of actual members but I had them update the terms of our invoice to state a guaranteed unique click delivery so that I wouldn't get screwed on volume.

Anytime I deal with an unknown vendor I will only pay by credit card so I am able to chargeback. It's just super annoying having to waste my time.
