Whether you like Dr. Laura or not ( I don't listen to her show) she made a valid point. The black community has evolved the word "nigga" to where it is now used as a term of endearment. Just listen to hip-hop, turn on Comedy central, or even better, just LISTEN to SOME blacks talk amongst themselves. The point Dr. Laura was emphasizing is that if this is such a vile, despicable term, then why is it used so often and freely within the black community? She eludes to the behavior being very confusing, and it is just that. White's don't walk around greeting each other with "whaddup kracker". Mexicans don't greet each other with " que pasa spic" .... you get the point. Or do you? So many people let their political ideologies cloud their common sense and judgment. It's easier to just attack someone using the blanket "you're a racist" accusation, or, better yet, draw attention away from the issue with a good, old fashioned character assassination. Boring.
its not much different than when they used to call each other 'man' back in the day since all the racist rednecks called them 'boy', they called each other man. so when someone says, 'hey man' to you, you can thank the black man for that expression.

i still don't get what dr lauras point was though...the word has evolved, as long as you say nigga and not the er. go ahead, try saying it with the er to a bunch of black guys and see how well that goes over. if you are down, even white guys can get away with saying nigga. they wanted to take a word that represented such hate and change it up, make it their own and take some of the sting out of it. i don't see why dr laura would care or why its an issue she brought up.
