It's probably true. My buddy is a senior developer at a big firm out in LA... about a year ago, the owner came in and told him to learn how to make iPhone/Android apps stat... he did and the company is banking big time, especially with custom written Android apps specifically for that client and their customers/employees.
His salary also significantly increased.
