Softail or Dyna Glide are pretty much the standard ('03 harleys)

Both are cruiser bike (70-75 HP)

Their new V-Rod (VRSC) sounds like a harley only if you change the pipes... but has good handling and is pretty fast (115 HP)

All the fun with harley bikes is the modifications you can do on them... The after-market of Harley Davidson is really big. It's half the fun of having a Harley.

If you don't plan to modify the bike, stick to a V-Rod or buy a cheaper Honda, Kawasaki, etc... there's no reason to own a harley if you don't personalize it, love it, be proud of it, yada yada IMHO. Otherwise it's like driving a Porshe in Alaska.

Anyway, I honestly think Harley-Davidson are overated. They were the first to build motorcycles 100 years ago, but except for their new V-Rod, they are expensive for what they offer (except for the name, fame & sound).
