The first sign that money would get lost in red tape was how all the emergency supplies and aid sat at the airport for days while they tried to figure out how to disperse it.

I would think that with all the money aimed at Haiti relief a board of intelligent planners could architect a way to completely rebuild the city in a way that would get them on the right track to a positive economy. It's understandable that it's their country and the US can only get so much involved.

I used to give when I could but there are sooooo many scammers out there I quit giving altogether. I watched a couple boys standing outside a store with cans saying they were seeking donations so their baseball team could go to a tournament. Once they got enough money in the can they were going in the store and buying ice cream and stuff.

A guy was sitting outside grocery stores with a German Shepherd and said he was collecting donations to provide local police dogs with protective vests. Looked legit and the dog made your heart melt. Local TV did an investigation and found that his " charity " had collected a lot of money over the past year but had yet to provide a single protective vest to any police department and he had a prior arrest and conviction for some other fraud

Just the other day a 20 year old girl was roaming the neighborhood with her baby and would knock on doors saying her baby was very hot and they needed relief from the heat as their car had broke down. Once inside she would distract the owner and then ransack the rooms looking for cash and jewelry.

People that prey on the kindness of others are scum of the earth.
