In the movies, you are wearing SHUTTER GLASSES. Each lens is an LCD "Shutter" that opens and closes 24 times each second (12 times each eye), in time with the movie projector which is showing either the "Right eye" image or the "left eye" image, in sync with your glasses.
iMax I believe has a faster rate but I don't know what it is.
3D TV's (and soon 3D computer monitors) refresh at 120 times or faster per minute, or 60 times for each eye, producing a much better 3D image than what you get in the movies. LCN Shutter glasses much match this speed which is why they are so expensive at the moment ($200 + per pair)
Shutter glasses will not work with Red/Green 3D, just as Red/Green glasses will not work with modern 3D. The shutter speed of the glasses must match that of the monitor as well, so if you stole glasses from the movie theatre, it won't work.

Yeah um what movie theater are you going to that uses shutter glasses? They use polarization. Also, anaglyph (Red/Green or other color combos) is not out dated per se, I wouldn't say its superior but its relatively common format that shouldn't be ignored in this context as I assume on his computer hes looking at anaglyph images as thats what you usually find on the internet. Anaglyph is also what is used when you buy a 3D dvd for home viewing.
