I don't know what your financial situation is, but you might want to consider picking up a few in the area. Easier to keep the area from going to shit if you own a good chunk of it.
But I still think that your rights trump their rights to be ignorant. They don't seem to care that them fucking the bank by letting the property go to shit is also them fucking you, a person who has been a decent neighbour for 20 years.
