Yeah its hard to actually isolate non targeted traffic. The run of the network ads on Juicy links is probably the only example I have, and even with that I am very selective when it comes to banners and which tour I sent the surfer to.
That is why I have placed a huge emphasis on hand picking affiliates. I know what will work and what wont and on what sites. So I very rarely approve affiliates who plan to just shoot traffic at my sites. It burns my BW and they aren't happy with the results.
The reason I responded to this thread however is to show that there are good sponsors out there and good sites, so there is money to be made. We all just need to start evaluating the REAL state of the industry and how to work together for the long run.
