The unemployment rate in France rose 0.1 point to 9. 2 percent in February as the number of jobless climbed for the fourth consecutive month, data released Friday by the social affairs ministry showed.
The French economy, under pressure from a global slowdown, has seen a wave of bankruptcies, restructurings and plant closures in recent months.
The jobless queue was likely to continue growing, the official statistics institute INSEE said Friday, forecasting an unemployment rate of 9.3 percent in June.
In February, the number of people registered as out of work rose by 19,000 or 0.8 percent to a total of 2,343,800, according to the social affairs ministry data.
The number of registered jobless had increased 0.7 percent in January, 0.8 percent in December and 0.6 percent in November.
