I have to assume you haven't played any American style football ever. I'm not a fan of watching any sports really, but I've played rugby, Aussie rules and American football. I'm not going to say one game is harder or better than the other, but American football is absolutely more hard hitting.
There's a reason that NFL is such a short season and it's not because they're lazy. When you get in to college or pro football levels in the states, you have 300 pound monsters teeing off on each other at full speed. Australian football or rugby don't come anywhere near close for the pure violence of the hits. They're much faster moving games more about endurance.
