I'm currently reading a book which talks about the Palestinian failure to create a state while Israel was created. It tells the story from the Palestinian point of view.
Basically, the Palestinians were fucked from day one. Even in terms of education and literacy, they were beat. In 1948 the Palestinian literacy rate was less than 20%, while the Jewish literacy rate was near 90% - most because of the large influx of jews from Europe at the close of WWII.
I'm just at the beginning of the book....
