So a treat is something "special". You thinking it likes "vanilla flavored" bullshit more then meat, and that that is a treat is just funny beyond any comprehension. Try giving him meat, not the silly dried food or whatever you buy that is considered "human grade" and see how it likes that treat.

you do know that too much meat isn't good for the dog as well, right? You have to watch sodium intake as well as caloric intake. As for "real meat", that is what they are fed, along with carrots, beans and rice. Unseasoned healthy food. They get their treats once in awhile between meals as well. Our dogs are happy and healthy.
